22 Days

So, today is the first day of my official vacation. I say official becuase while I have been physically showing up to work for the past few days, I mentally and spiritually checked out some time last week. This school year seemed like it took an inordinately long time to be over. In our district, some personel work 10 months and 22 days....your's truley is one of them. Seriously, I was clocking my time like a prisoner awaiting a release date- unabashedly. I told my secretary that I was not taking any work related calls AT ALL while on vacation, so don't bother me with the foolishness. They have had my mostly undivided attention for the past 10 months and 22 days and now, it's Miller time! (the joke here is that I don't even drink beer, but if I did, well you get my point).
I remember one summer they were blowing up my cell phone, while I was on vacation, over some straight bull shit! Some stuff that anyone with half a brain could have handled. To say that I was annoyed would be a supreme understatement. It takes me about 35 seconds to totally tune into what I call "vacation station" and mother bear does not take too kindly to anyone trying to change the dial while she is rockin' out to these melodic tunes. Besides, it is not like I am the damn president (or principal in my case)so please people, respect my space and leave me alone while I am on vacation.
I really do miss working in a district where I had the option to be off the entire summer and I am seriously considering casting my net to see what might be out there toward that end. I love the children and families that I work with, but this job really does take a lot out of you. I only work NEAR the classroom, not always directly in it as a teacher would.....bless their hearts, they need that two months to rejuvinate..trust me.
Please dear reader, I implore your patience with me at this juncture. The fact that thousands of folks are looking for jobs and desirous of gainful employement is not lost on me. I am thankful for the work I do and consider it a blessing to actually Love my vocation. However, a sista is tired right now...it is what it is.
So anywho, as I my body is getting reaquanted with it's old friends, my mind and spirit I hope they will conspire to have some good stuff to share with ya'll. One of my favorite things to do while on vacation is stay up all hours of the night doing stuff that normal folks do during the day. I really am a night owl and have such struggles getting up early for work in the morning. Hence, my less than stellar attitude/performance at work in the a.m.
Right now, I am going to turn my trusty portable bedside DVD player on (I refuse to actully put a television in the bed room)and, once again, watch Re-run and Danny Dominoe battle it out on the dance floor- while I fold some clothes.
Have a great night!
KC
